The Way of the Cross is the path that Jesus took, carrying the cross, to where he was crucified. Today, the way starts at the Church of the Flagellation and ends, after a distance of one kilometre, which at that time ended outside the walls, at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. The Church of the Flagellation is a place that, according to tradition, is built where Christ was scourged by soldiers before beginning the Via Dolorosa. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the most important churches and was erected where Christ was crucified, anointed, buried and where he rose again.

Richard B.9/13/2024It’s a stunning piece of art. It has some heft to it, being solid bronze, so make sure you have somewhere to hang where it can be anchored into the wall with a sturdy hook. It’s one I plan to pass on to my kids and hope they will pass on to theirs.
