Crucifix in lenga wood with Christ and Virgin , size 39.5x29.5x1.5 cm.
The crucifix is hand carved by Peruvian craftsmen. The wood arrives from
Lima and is taken to the Andes, where the workshops are located, at an
altitude of between 2800 and 3600 metres.
The wood must age for one
to several years, depending on its thickness. When the humidity drops to
12 - 13% it is ready to be used.

Crucifix in lenga wood with Christ and Virgin , size 39.5x29.5x1.5 cm.
The crucifix is hand carved by Peruvian craftsmen. The wood arrives from
Lima and is taken to the Andes, where the workshops are located, at an
altitude of between 2800 and 3600 metres.

The drawing, first made on paper, is then placed on the wood board. The wood is then carved using chisels and gouges.
In
the first phase of the process, the wood is rough-hewn to define the
figures, then partially worked with other tools until the image with all
its details is complete.
All the young sculptors came out of the
'taller don Bosco' art school and were given the tools to work by hand.
The artefact is made in Peru by local artisans working within the Mato
Grosso project.
