The name of these women comes from the myrrh that they were carrying to the grave. In the Western Christianity, these same women are called the Three Marys, even if some other versions of the name exist. They are mentioned when Joseph of Arimatea and Nicodemus took down Jesus' body from the cross and embalm it with myrrh and aloe. Because it was a saturday, the women had to do a quick burial, but on sunday morning, they came back to finish the ritual as early as possible.
