The first mention of the Virgin of Vladimir dates back to 1155, when the icon was allegedly brought from Constantinople to Kiev to the Monastery of Vyshhorod. In 1155, the prince St. Andrey of Bogolyubovo brought the icon to Vladimir-Suzdal where it was decorated with a golden frame and placed in the Cathedral of Vladimir, which gave it its name.
In 1395, the icon was brought to Moscow to intercede for the victory against the Tartars.
In the icon, the Theotokos is depicted pointing at the Infant Jesus, looking at the bystanders to let them know where the Way of Salvation leads. Only in Him, the faithfoul souls can live in a saving way every cross and every pain.
