Ancient Russian icon of the Incoronation of the Virgin, 19th century, 16x14 in. On the 22th of August, we celebrate the Queenship of Mary to stress its connection with the feast of the Assumption. This place between Jesus Christ and God offers to Mary multiple titles, including Mother and vital influence of the members of the Mystical Body, sovereign and queen of the Church.
To a human point of view, it is hard to attribute a place to Mary, who had proclaimed herself servant of the Lord and had lived in total humility. In his Gospel, Saint Luke places Mary among the eleven Apostles, but she is not the one who gives orders, Peter does. Mary is the one that creates the link between all of them and the Risen Christ. Mary is the queen because she is the Mother of Christ and all Christians see in her the kindness and the generosity of the divine love. Mary is crowned with the double diadem of virginity and divine maternity: "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you".
