This painting is a copy of the famous icon mentioned in chronicles of the year 1155, where it is said that the original piece was brought from Constantinople to Kiev in the monastery of Vychgorod.
In 1155, Prince St. Andrey brought the icon to his principality, decorated it with a golden frame, and placed it in the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir on the River Kliasma.
During the Tartar invasion in 1395, the icon was taken to Moscow, which was miraculously saved from devastation, eventually settling there in 1480.
The icon symbolises the tender relationship between the Mother and the Child, with Baby Jesus resting His cheek against the Virgin's cheek.
Delivered in a blue velvet case with evaluation by a specialised expert.
