Ancient Russian icon with riza, Joy of all who sorrow, 19th century, 11x10 in. This icon was glorified in 1688 after the miraculous healing of the sister of Patriarch Joachim.
In 1711 the icon was brought to Saint Petersburg and a copy of it to Moscow. The two icons are very different from each other, but in every copy, past or modern, of this icon there is always one feature in common: the people who sorrow, praying the Mother of God.
