This icon depicts the 16 Great Feasts of the Orthodox liturgical calendar, the most important celebrations of the year. Each feast is represented in a frame, all surrounding the central section where we find the most important Feast: Easter.
Easter is diveded in four episodes: Christ's descent into Hell, the procession of the Blessed towards Paradise, the Resurrection of Christ from the sepulchre and the apparition at Lake Tiberias.
The other feasts are: the Nativity of the Theotokos, the presentation of the Theotokos, the Holy Trinity of the Old Testament, the Annonciation, the Nativity of Jesus, the presentation of Jesus, the Baptism, the Palm Sunday, the Transfiguration, the Ascension of Christ, the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Resurrection of Lazarus, the Saints Martyrs Cyricus and Julitta, the Joy of All who Sorrow, the Ascension of prophet Elijah and the Elevation of the Holy Cross.
