Antique Russian icon, Our Lady of Kazan, 18th century 40x30 cm. Antique icon of the 18th century from Koluy (Russia), representing the Mother of God of Kazan, called as the city where it was found in 1579 after three apparitions of the Holy Virgin.
This icon follows the iconographic model of the Mother of God Hodegetria where the Child is standing, blessing with the right hand and the Holy Virgin is portrayed up to mid-chest, a cut that became popular in the 16th century. The subject is surrounded by a double frame, gold and red.
This picture is characterised by a particular processing consisting of painting with tempera on a silver leaf, which allows the figures to shine like the light was inside them, in the spirit of the Byzantine iconography.
Precious icon of 44.3x35 cm, delivered in a blue velvet case with certificate of authenticity and export document.
