Our Lady of Kazan, ancient Russian icon with onorific embroidery, 18th century, 12.2x10.2 inches. This icon dates back to the late 18th century, from Moscow and is covered by an ancient riza of copper and silver, protecting the painting underneath. The riza is also enriched by a layer of fabric with a rare onorific embroidery, i.e. an embroidery with beads and stones following the lines of the drawing. The icon represents Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most beloved and worshiped icons.
The original painting was found by a young girl in 1579, who had a dream of the Virgin Mary showing her where the first christians had hidden the icon. After the find, the painting was brought to the Kazan church, becoming the protector of the capital city of St. Petersburg.
The icon is painted with egg tempera on a linden wood board and is delivered in an elegant case with the expertise of a registered expert.
