The icon of the Mother of God of Tichvin is one of the most beloved Miraculous images in Russia.
This icon appeared in 1383 in Novgorod. A legend from the XVI century talks about 4 apparitions of the Sacred icon. The last of one happened on the left side of the river Tichvinca, where afterwards the Church of the Durmition of Our Lady and the Tichvinski Monastery were built.
This monastery avoided the Swedish siege in 1613-1615 because of the intercession of the Virgin, invoked in front of the icon.
This icon is celebrated on the 26th of June. It's similar to the type Odighitria.
The most important peculiarity of this icon is in the gestures of Christ: with his right hand he is Blessing his Mother.
