Russian icon of the Crucifixion, painted on an old board, 14x11 in. This Russian icon was painted in the 21th century on an old board of the 19th and represents the Crucifixion according to the Byzantin iconographic tradition. At the foot of the cross, a fissure shows Adam's skull, wet from Jesus' blood as a symbol of redemption of all sins.
The cross symbolises a bridge between the Earth and the Kingdom of Heaven, while Jesus becomes the new Adam, in whom everybody will live again.
