Icon Mother of God Dostojno East Romanian hand-painted 29x21. A very precious icon painted entirely by Romanian master craftsmen with a specific technique called ''illumination'' used to enhance and foreground the faces, giving them brilliance.
The key theme of the icon is light. Light, in accordance with the tradition of the Byzantine icon, is painted with gold, i.e. it is manifested as pure light.
The original icon is located on Mount Athos, precisely in the sanctuary of the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin in Karie.
According to tradition, a monk who lived near Karie with a young disciple went out to participate in a long Sunday eve prayer in a monastery. The disciple, who was left alone in the evening, heard a knock at the door and invited a monk who had asked to pray in his company to come in. Together they recited the vigil service and at the same time the icon in front of which they were praying lit up with divine light.
The disciple asked to write the invocation on a nearby stone, and after having scratched the prayer, the singing monk, called Gabriel, disappeared.
The icon was transported to the main church in Karie and the stone engraved by the archangel Gabriel, because he was thought of as such, was sent to Constantinople.
The feast of this icon was fixed in Russia on 11 June.
