The icon represents the Virgin with Child according to te image of Mother-of-God Donskaja, an icon attributed to Theophanes the Greek. The original icon is known to had led the Russians to victory against the Tartars in 1380 and to make them leave Moscow in 1591. The name comes from the Don region, where the prince of Moscow Dimitri came from, the prince who received the icon in 1380 after the battle.

Icon of Our Lady of Don hand painted in Romania following traditional iconographic technics on a plank of wood with a canvas applied on it and covered by layers of plaster. The gold colour, very present in this icon, symbolise pure light.
Delivered in a velvet and satin blue box with guarantee certificate and a brochure about the icon history.
