The Crucifixion icon 50x40 cm hand painted in Romania. In the icon the body of Christ, crucifixed and dead, maintains all the composure of the King of Glory: the head is inclined on the right, the body is slightly curved and the open arms seem to bear no burden, but to contain all the dimensions of time and space in one hug.
The cross stands on Mount Golgotha, the "place of the skull", refering to Adam's skull, buried in a dark cave and washed by the blood coming from the crucifix.
