According to the legend, the original icon was painted by Saint Luke, the Evangelist. In 463, the image was transfered by the Greek king Leo I to Constantinople and, later, in 1571, Ivan the Terrible brought it to the Cathedral of the Assumption in Moscow. The icon disappeared entirely after the war against Napoleon, in 1812. Today, an exact replica of the original icon is exposed in the main cathedral of the Kremlin.
The characters depicted in the icon are the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, pointing at her Son, the Infant Jesus, blessing the audience with the scroll of Sacred Scriptures in his hand. By their sides, stand Mary's parents, Saints Joachim and Anna.
Icon delivered in an elegant blue velvet case with satin lining.
