Hand-painted Russian icon of Our Lady of Jachroma 14x10 cm. Faithful copy of one of the most famous original archetypes of the 16th century, this icon represents the Mother of God of Jachroma, painted on a linden wood plank with gold leaf background according to the Byzantine-Russian iconographic rules.
The story goes that two pilgrims, an old sick man and a young man, tired, decided to rest next to a spring. While they were sleeping, the young man saw a strong light and heard a voice, coming from an icon hanging on a tree. When the old man touched the icon he healed. After that, the young man, saint Cosmas the monk, brought the icon to the Kiev Monastery of the Caves where he built a church in honour of the Dormition of the Mother of God and put the icon in it.
The whole icon has a wrinkling effect to create an antique finish.
Icon delivered in a linden wood box with guarantee certificate, icon history and hook to hang it on the back.
