The icon of the Nursing Madonna was originally owned by Saint Sava, in a monastery near Jerusalem. Before he died, he revealed to his brothers that a man with the same name as his would come from Serbia and that they would have to give the sacred image to him.
At the beginning of the IV century the prediction turned into reality: a Serbian archbishop called Sava came on pilgrimage. The monks gave him two icons, one of them being the Nursing Madonna.
Saint Sava of Serbia took the icon to Mount Athos and placed it in the monastery of Chilender.
The image represents the Mother of God breastfeeding the Son. It is popularly known for the many people miraculously healed thanks to it and for the protection it granted against the Swedish invasion.
This is a very detailed icon, made in Russia, handmade and hand painted by Russian artists, according to the traditional techniques and norms of Russian iconography.
This is a copy of a XVIII century icon belonging to an Italian collection.
The item is delivered in an elegant blue case in satin, with certificate of authenticity.
