Painted icon, Our Lady of Bogolubska with riza, Poland, 47.5x39 cm. Icon of Our Lady of Bogolubska, hand painted in Russian style in Poland with tempera on wood and decorated with a riza of silver and copper alloy, hammered and enamelled by hand.
This icon was first painted in 1158 on the request of the grand duke Andrej Bogolubskij and based on his dreams. The Mother of God is represented with an open scroll in her hand containing the dialogue between her and the Son of God. Beneath this portrait, we find the Christ Pantocrator in the centre, the Virgin with the Archangel Michael on his left and Saint John and the Archangel Gabriel on his right.
The back of the icon is protected by fabric and has a hook to hang it.
