Virgin of Kazan, painted icon, Russian style, antique finish, 19.5x15.5 cm. Icon of Our Lady of Kazan handpainted on wood with tempera and gold leaf by Polish artists and finished with an antique effect.
This icon takes its name from the city of Kazan where in 1579 the Virgin appeared to a little girl in her dreams and showed her where the icon was hidden. Shortly after, the icon became famous for the miracles connected to it.
Icon with no riza, rich in decorations, portraiting Our Lady with Child with almost invisible lines. The Infant Jesus is represented standing, blessing the audience with his right hand, while the Mother of God, represented down to her shoulders, has her head slightly leaning towards her son.
