Saint Pantaleon was born in Nicomedia in the 2nd century, became a doctor and was trained by a priest in the care and the salvation of souls. He started to distribute his wealth to the poors and treat the sicks in exchange of their conversion.
His behaviour got the attention of certain doctors who became jalous and reported him to the Emperor Maximilian. After taking statements of Pantaleon's patients, the Emperor arrested him and, after another healing, he condemned him to torture and death. Torture had no effect on him, so he was beheaded.
Since then, Saint Pantaleon, Saint Patron of doctors and midwives, is worshiped as Saint from many Christian churches and is considered as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
